Day 1 - Independent exploration of Bilbao

Today discover how this city has reinvented itself, with its host of modern sites designed by world-renowned architects. The metro is a combination of architectural craft and engineering prowess by Britain's famed architect, Sir Norman Foster, and you will see his dramatic, curved-glass metro entrances, which are locally known as fosteritos, or “little Fosters.” Other masterpieces inlcude Philippe Stark's La Alhandiga, which is an old wine warehouse, converted into a multicultural center, and Iberdrola Tower, designed by Cesar Pelli, the tallest tower in the Basque country. The bridge designed by Santiago Calatrava, who also designed La Paloma (The Dove), the soaring Bilbao airport terminal, is also well worth visiting.

Continue your tour with a walk around the Avenida de Abandoibarra, where you will find the Museo de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Museum), which houses works by El Greco, Sorolla and Gauguin, among others.

This evening, venture into the Casco Viejo (Old Town). This ancient heart of Bilbao dates back almost 1,000 years, yet is still full of life. Here you will find a variety of pintxo bars in Plaza Nueva, Jardines Sreet or Santa Maria.

Day 2 - Independent exploration of Bilbao

Continue your exploration of Bilbao, walking along the bridges and walkways that unite the city's new and old sections. A walk across the Zubi Zubi Bridge is highly recommended. You might also take a boat ride on the Nervion River to get a different perspective of Bilbao. Perhaps you'll venture up the Artxanda funicular railway to another viewpoint over the city. If window shopping appeals to you, then stroll the Gran Via with all its modern shops and stop at the beautiful Café Iruna next to the Albia Gardens.

Day 3 - Depart for the U.S.

After breakfast, transfer to the Bilbao airport for your flight home.

Please note:  For guests with early-morning departures, full breakfast at the hotel may not be available but a light continental breakfast may be available. Please check with the front desk to verify the times that breakfast is served and location.

VBT transfer times and departure points are finalized in advance and cannot be modified for individual guests. If you extend your stay beyond the scheduled program dates, return transportation to the airport is at your own expense.
