Day 1 - Begin Post-trip Extension to Cambodia

Meet in the hotel lobby three hours prior to your flight departure (subject to change per required check-in time at the airport) for your transfer (approximately 30 minutes) to the Saigon airport. Upon arrival in Siem Reap, Cambodia, claim your luggage and clear customs. Then meet your VBT representative, who will be holding a VBT sign. He or she will help you transfer (approximately 20 minutes) to your hotel, the Sofitel Phokeethra Royal Angkor Resort. VBT provides you with City Information in your Final Travel Booklet that includes information and recommendations about what to see and do during your stay.

Day 2 - Continue Post-trip Extension

This morning, set out on a walking tour to visit the former Presidential Palace, the site of the former U.S. Embassy, Notre Dame Cathedral, City Hall (Hotel de Ville), the Historical Museum or the War Remnant Museum, and the Rex Hotel, famous for the regular press briefings that cynically became known as the “Five o'Clock Follies” during the Vietnam War. Enjoy a final lunch together in one of the city's great restaurants before spending some free time shopping or exploring on your last day in Vietnam.

Day 3 - Exploration of Siem Reap

This morning, join a local guide to explore the ancient—and astonishingly vast—city of Angkor, built during the reign of the Khmer Empire, which ruled Cambodia from the ninth through 15th centuries. Explore Angkor Thom, the mysterious city-within-a-city. Its 50-tower temple is an awe-inspiring sight. At first blush, it seems a mere stone mass, but further scrutiny reveals numerous faces, one after another, carved into the stone. During our visit be sure to view the Baphoun, Elephant Terrace, Leper King Terrace and Royal Palace areas. In the afternoon, discover Angkor Wat, the world's largest religious monument Featuring five soaring, lotus-shaped pillars, the temple is justly celebrated for its exquisite bas-relief galleries, which feature hundreds of apsaras—celestial nymphs from Hindu and Buddhist mythology.

Day 4 - Continued exploration of Siem Reap

After breakfast, we'll set off for the outskirts of town to visit Ban Teay Srei, the birthplace of classical Khmer architecture. In the afternoon, we'll return to the hotel for a nap or a swim before heading out to Phnom Bakheng, the first major temple to be constructed in the Angkor region. The Bakheng's hilltop location makes it the area's most popular sunset viewing spot, so we won't be alone, but we will be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Angkor Wat and West Baray.

Day 5 - Depart for U.S.

After breakfast, enjoy a final morning of exploration with a visit to the picturesque and haunting Ta Prohm, a temple that has nearly been swallowed by the jungle. Magnificent tree roots push between the temple's huge stone blocks, emphasizing the legend of the “lost city” of Angkor.

You may store your luggage with the hotel when you check out of your room, and use the hotel facilities until it is time to depart for your flight home. You'll meet in the hotel lobby three hours prior to your flight departure (subject to change per required check-in time at the airport). Then transfer to the Siem Reap airport, approximately 15 minutes travel time, for your flight home via Tokyo or Seoul. You arrive one day later in the U.S.

Please note: VBT transfer times and departure points are finalized in advance and cannot be modified for individual guests. If you extend your stay beyond the scheduled program dates, return transportation to the airport will be at your own expense.
