Italy & Austria: Cross-Country Skiing the Dolomites​

Your senses will come alive here in the magnificent city whose landscapes were captured in the classic movie, The Sound of Music. The birthplace of Mozart, Salzburg has been a cultural center for centuries, offering a host of museums, concert venues, cathedrals and more to discover at your leisure. Perhaps you’ll venture afield to the Hallein & The Dürrnberg Salt Mines that gave the city its name (literally, “City of Salt”). Or simply stroll the streets of the charming Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our luxury hotel is located in the heart of the city, making it easy to explore.

Upon arrival at the Salzburg Airport, a VBT representative will meet you outside the customs area in your arrival terminal. The representative will be holding a VBT sign and will help you transfer by private car or van (approximately 25 minutes) to your hotel in the Salzburg city center. The rest of the day is free for you to settle in and explore the city. Tonight, choose a local restaurant for dinner on your own.

Please note: If you arrive early, your hotel room may not be available until 1 p.m. You may store your luggage with the Reception Desk. If you are traveling from the West Coast, your arrival in Salzburg may not be until late in the evening.

Stroll the streets of this romantic city and explore independently today. Visit the Mozarteum, a school and museum dedicated to Mozart's life, or several other artistic centers, such as the Carolino Augusteum or the Baroque Museum. Perhaps you’ll retrace the steps of Maria and her young von Trapp charges as depicted in The Sound of Music, visiting Mirabell gardens or any number of other sites, such as the cathedral or St. Peter's Abbey. Salzburg's city center is easily walkable and contains a number of outdoor cafés and restaurants. Tonight, dinner is on your own.

After breakfast, continue exploring Salzburg on your own. There’s always a concert of some sort going on, and you might also take in the views from atop stout Hohensalzburg Fortress. Dinner is on your own tonight. Air Package guests arrive throughout the day.
