Stepping to the edge of the Grand Canyon and marveling at the sunset against the colorful layers of limestone, sandstone, and shale, you have a moment to reflect…

Perhaps your reflection will bring memories of the past week and how the perspective atop the South Rim of the Grand Canyon differs from our hikes through the valley floor in Zion. The distant sound of the train whistle may bring you back to our journey on the Grand Canyon Railway and the herd of elk spotted through the panoramic windows of the train. Perhaps you’ll envision our pre-historic ancestors carving petroglyphs on the canyon walls. Join VBT and learn more about the natural and human history as you walk through two of America’s most scenic National Parks.

What to Expect

This tour features fairly easy terrain, with some gradual climbs and spectacular views. We walk on a variety of surfaces, including dirt trails and paved paths. On rainy days the foot trails can be muddy and slippery. The desert climate can be very hot during the day and cool at night. We travel by coach between destinations and by in-park public shuttle buses in the parks. Both morning and afternoon walking options are available on most days. This tour is ideal for both enthusiastic beginners and experienced walkers. Several of the walks require a transfer from our hotel to the start of the walk. Our tour leaders often use this time in the van for our morning route review, so we can enjoy a more leisurely morning at breakfast.
