Journey Through Australia’s Rainforests, Reef & Outback

Few Australia vacations focus on cross-cultural discovery with an eco-friendly twist, making this VBT adventure a rare gem. Cruise the Great Barrier Reef on a sailing catamaran—preserving the fragile ecosystem as a local marine biologist guides your discovery. Visit a First Nations artist enclave, where you’ll learn the fine art of traditional dot painting—then journey to Uluru where you’ll experience a stunning sunset dinner. Explore the Daintree rainforest with a local First Nation’s guide and enjoy a traditional bush tucker lunch. In sophisticated Sydney, you’ll visit the Opera House, explore Bondi Beach, and take a scenic bushwalk with a local guide. An optional guided post-trip extension to New Zealand’s South Island brings you Māori culture, glacier experiences, and a cruise on Milford Sound. Group Size: 10-16

What to Expect

This tour involves moderate activity with up to three miles of walking on most days, generally at a relaxed, stop-and-go pace. Surfaces include paved city sidewalks, garden paths, and some uneven natural terrain in the Daintree Rainforest and Blue Mountains, with optional short bushwalks on gravel or steps. Elevators are available in hotels and most museums, though some historic lookouts involve stairs. Transportation is primarily by private coach, with occasional trips on trams, ferries, and boats, as well as two domestic flights. Expect some longer transfers of up to four hours when traveling to the Blue Mountains or along the Great Ocean Road. Agility is needed for boarding smaller boats, and opportunities arise to swim in both ocean and freshwater settings. Sun exposure can be strong in tropical and desert regions, and crowds are common at popular attractions.

Highlights

  • Discover Melbourne’s charming neighborhoods with a local guide.
  • Learn from Aboriginal guides at Uluru and in the Daintree, experiencing dot painting, bush tucker, and cultural traditions deeply connected to Australia’s oldest landscapes.

  • Explore Sydney through multiple lenses: a guided walk in the Botanic Gardens, surf lifesaving culture at Bondi, and a private Opera House tour.
