Catalog of dreams encompasses company’s 36 trips in 25 countries
BRISTOL, VT — VBT Bicycling and Walking Vacations has announced its full line of 2011 trips in one comprehensive catalog, available now. The 174-page catalog describes in detail the 36 deluxe bicycling and walking vacations in 25 countries offered for the 2011 season. “We are especially thrilled this year to present all of our active vacations in one beautiful, full-color digest that will look great on anyone’s coffee table,” says Gregg Marston, the company’s President.
“I consider this much more than a catalog,” Marston continues. “We’ve had great success in designing active vacations that help travelers fully experience destinations in meaningful and powerful ways. So this book really is a means to nurture the mind, body, and spirit.”
The company has added four new vacations to their 2011 schedule: a bicycling vacation to Italy’s Dolomites, a “bike and barge” vacation to The Netherlands, and walking vacations to Portugal and Croatia.
Italy: Cycling the Dolomite Valleys has been ranked “Easy” by the company’s rating system. “We actually found roads with an easy gradient to connect these expansive valleys in the Italian Alps,” says Chris Skilling, VBT’s Director of Worldwide Product. He goes on to describe the Dolomite region as “a rich and fascinating blend of Italian and Austrian alpine culture.” Netherlands Bike & Barge is a new addition to the company’s popular trips that combine an intimate barge cruise with days of cycling along quiet paths. “It’s an incredibly relaxing way to travel – in a lovely part of the world,” says Skilling.
Walking Portugal’s Douro River Valley introduces travelers to Portugal’s famed wine region where port originated. Walking paths follow part of the Way of St. James, the pilgrimage route that continues to Santiago de Compostela in Spain; and traverse hillside vineyards with panoramic views of the valley. Walking Croatia’s Dalmatian Islands traces seaside footpaths on the islands of Brac and Hvar, with sweeping coastal vistas. "Our Walking Vacations have been extraordinarily popular since we reintroduced them in 2010,” says Skilling. “We’re delighted to offer even more walking choices in 2011."
Marston adds that VBT associates around the world have another reason to be proud of the upcoming 2011 season. VBT recently placed 4th in Travel + Leisure magazine's 2010 World's Best Awards in the “Tour Operator and Safari Outfitter” category, and was named among the “Best Adventure Travel Companies on Earth” by National Geographic magazine, ranking among the top two “Best Bicycle Outfitters on Earth” two years in a row.
Founded in 1971, VBT Bicycling and Walking Vacations is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year. Each trip includes all accommodations, many meals, two expert local Trip Leaders, unique sightseeing and cultural activities, and full vehicle support. Unlike other companies, VBT also includes international airfare in its trip cost. As a commitment to its unsurpassed value, VBT guarantees its travelers that 2011 prices are less than or equal to 2010 prices.
